What regulator to use.

I have a 113 S&S and the bike won't run over 1800 rpms with out popping and spiting. out the carb. The last time it did that the battery was bad I checked my battery and it shows me 12 volts but dropped down when I hit the starter. I charged it and had it tested the guy told me the voltage regulator could cause this. But I looked in Custom Chrome parts book and they have different ones how do you tell which one to use.

Have You Tested The Stator? Is It Good And Did You Check If Your Plug Is Tight At The Stator To The Reg. Also Check The Ground For The Regulator. They Make Regulators For 15-17-19-22-32-an 38 Amp Systems So Please Check These Things And Let Us Know What The Bike Is And We Can Better Tell You.

unplug your regulator at the motor.. note how many terminlas & if they are male or female.. most all catalogs will identify the one you need by pictures that coincide with your terminal position & type..so just match them up from there.. generally a custom bike run a pre 1996 type with 2 male terminals on the reg.. but not always.. of course you will have another wire on them all that connects to the battery..generally a 32 amp will do the trick.. the amps on the reg. dont have to match the amps on the alt.. as long as the reg. is the same amp or higher your good.. 32amp. will get you there..

Some Have Clips That Bolt On And Hold The Plug Secure Or You Can Drill A Small Hole In The Face Of The Male And Female Side Of The Plug And Stick A Small Roll Pin Through It.

landmark makes a nice stainless clip.. it connects to the frt. motor mount blt & is shaped to hold inward pressure on that plug terminal when its all tightened up.. these are the only type i use & i use them religiously..
